LEGO Icons - Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams

In an exciting new collaboration, LEGO has teamed up with artist Pharrell Williams to ignite creativity and imagination through their latest LEGO Icons set, Over the Moon. This LEGO Pharrell Williams set features a space shuttle adorned with a striking golden canopy and a dynamic jet stream of vibrant colours. For Pharrell, the boundless expanse of space has always been a powerful source of inspiration, symbolizing the limitless possibilities that lie within each of us.

Pharrell, who believes that curiosity and creativity are fundamental to success, sees this partnership as an opportunity to encourage people of all ages to explore their own creative potential. The Over the Moon set is crafted to reflect this ethos: The black-and-gold shuttle symbolizes limitless potential, taking off and transporting you anywhere you can imagine. The bright and vibrant colours of the jet stream symbolize the imagination, creativity, and power of play to fuel your way. Notably, this set also includes the widest range of minifigure skin tones ever featured in a LEGO product, highlighting Pharrell’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.

The launch of Over the Moon is also a precursor to the upcoming release of PIECE BY PIECE, a film by Academy Award-winning director Morgan Neville, which explores Pharrell’s life and creative vision. Debuting in US theatres on October 11 and internationally on November 6, the film promises a vibrant journey into Pharrell’s world, enhanced by original music and a unique LEGO-inspired experience. Through this collaboration, Pharrell and LEGO invite everyone to step into the pilot seat and embark on their own imaginative adventures. We take a closer look at the set below:

Comparable Sets

The Licensed sub-theme within the LEGO Icons theme is much newer with the first sets launched in 2022 and only now starting to retire. To date there have been 3 LEGO Icons Licensed sets retiring of which one has done amazingly, one has flopped and one has shown small gains. Its too early to look at the sub-theme numbers as a whole but it does help underline that you need to pick the correct sets as LEGO investments within this sub-theme.

LEGO The Friends Apartments (10292) has already seen a 76% increase in value from its $180 RRP to $316 despite only retiring in December 2023 and that value is still increasing currently!

In contrast LEGO Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft (10291) has really flopped, losing 40% of its value since retiring at the end of 2022, albeit its current value is similar to the deeply discounted price it was available for before it retired and no huge surprise.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
10292 The Friends Apartments December 2023 $180 $316 76% 120%
76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck December 2023 $90 $94 4% 6%
10291 Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft December 2022 $100 $58 -42% -27%

Conclusion

A strong LEGO icons theme and a newish sub-theme which has already proved it contains one great investment LEGO set, there is enough foundations to consider this set as a LEGO investment, so the assessment boils down to the individual sets characteristics, quality and appeal. At Investabrick we think this is likely to be popular and will be seeing what demand is like once it has been released to further assess its LEGO investment appeal.
