Theme Analysis
We have looked at the Licensed sub-theme which has delivered annualised growth of 9% historically (slightly outperforming the wider LEGO Technic theme which has returned 7% annualised growth across 400+ sets and over 20 years!).
We really liked the LEGO Technic Volvo EW160E (42053) which has more than doubled its £75 RRP since retiring in December 2017 (13% annualised growth). Another strong performer is the LEGO Technic Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245 (42043) which is now valued at £344 having retired with an RRP of £180 at the end of 2017 (12% annualised growth).

Conclusion
The Technic theme has produced some very solid returns over a very large sample and long time period, yet we still feel that it can be a set pickers theme. We would rather a bit more track record of Licensed motorbikes, but the 1 comparator we do have has performed sensationally. The Licensed sub-theme sets do outperform the whole theme and we think this LEGO Ducati model will be another successful investment, purchasing at a 20% discount to RRP at Amazon just before it retires.
