LEGO City LEGO City Lunar Research Base LEGO Space

LEGO City has captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike with its incredible attention to detail and endless possibilities for play. What sets LEGO City apart from other LEGO themes is its ability to realistically replicate real-life scenarios such as airports, police stations, and even jungle exploration sites. However, it isn’t just the realism that sets it apart from other themes, it is also the exciting and fun addition of LEGO space sets like the LEGO City Lunar Research Base. These sets allow children to explore and discover the wonders of space, all while using their creativity to build and imagine new missions. The popularity of both LEGO City and LEGO space sets is a testament to the endless possibilities that LEGO provides for children all around the world.

Theme Analysis

The LEGO City theme is a diverse one with several sub-themes and provides solid if unspectacular returns of 8% annualised growth and is not one we often recommend sets from. That said performance does vary across the various sub-themes quite a lot.

Retired sets include LEGO City Airport Passenger Terminal (60104) which retired in 2017 with an RRP of £85 and is now valued at over £150 (11% annualised growth) and LEGO City Coast Guard Headquarters which has grown 55% from its £85 RRP since retiring in 2018 (10% annualised growth).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
60104 Airport Passenger Terminal December 2017 £85 £151 78% 11%
60167 Coast Guard Headquarters December 2018 £85 £132 55% 10%
60141 Police Station December 2019 £85 £114 34% 8%
60161 Jungle Exploration Site December 2018 £85 £121 42% 8%

Comparable Set Analysis

The LEGO City Space sub-theme has 9 retired sets which have performed in line with the overall theme delivering annualised growth of 8% with all the sets delivering between 5% and 13%, again solid but unspectacular. Theres no reason to expect much different from LEGO Lunar Research Base.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
60080 Spaceport December 2016 £70 £124 77% 9%
3368 Space Center December 2013 £50 £114 128% 9%
60079 Training Jet Transporter December 2016 £40 £54 35% 5%
3367 Space Shuttle December 2013 £27 £40 48% 4%

Conclusion

Both theme and sub-theme are delivering annualised growth of 8% and there is no reason not to expect similar from LEGO Space 60350. That said the ability to purchase at a 25% discount from Amazon currently gives us a better proposition and tips this into a set we think is worth tucking away in your portfolio.
