Theme Analysis

Its LEGO Star Wars, what else is there to say!!! Delivering annualised growth of 12% across a large number of sets and sub-themes for more than 2 decades there’s little doubt about the success of the LEGO Star Wars theme.

We look at some of the older sets at a similar price point to LEGO 75292, these included LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Fighter (7191) which retired just over 20 years ago with an RRP of £106 and is today valued at just over ten times that amount (11% annualised growth) and LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer (75055) which had an RRP of £120 when retiring in 2015 and is now valued at more than double that amount at nearly £300 (12% annualised growth).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
10144 Sandcrawler 31/12/2008 $140 $421 201% 7%
7191 X-wing Fighter 28/02/2002 $150 $1,255 737% 10%
75055 Imperial Star Destroyer 31/12/2015 $130 $354 172% 12%
9516 Jabba's Palace 31/12/2013 $120 $393 228% 12%

Comparable Set Analysis

The Mandalorian sub-theme was launched in 2019 and so far there have only been 6 sets that have retired, 2 at the end of 2021 and 4 at the end of last year. Initial performance has been at the 2 extremes. LEGO Star Wars The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge only retired at the of last year but has already doubled in value whereas Star Wars ST-ST Raider retired at the end of 2021 and is currently valued 26% below its retirement price! Initial signs make it look like a set picker’s sub theme.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
75254 AT-ST Raider 31/12/2021 $50 $48 -4% -1%
75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack 31/12/2021 $15 $21 40% 13%
75319 The Armorer's Mandalorian Forge 31/12/2022 $30 $54 80% 40%

Conclusion

A retiring set from the Star Wars theme is always high up our investment list and this one seems to be a strong candidate to invest in. A relatively new sub-theme with some mixed performance clouds the picture slightly but we still think this set is worth adding to your portfolio, especially if you can find it at a discount before it retires.
