And now, LEGO has just released a new model of Star Wars C-3PO, bringing the beloved protocol droid to life in stunning detail. Known for his witty remarks and unwavering loyalty, C-3PO has been a fan favourite since his debut in the original Star Wars trilogy. Is the new LEGO model going to capture the essence of the character with intricate features and be a good investment? Read on to find out.

Set Details

The LEGO Star Wars™ C-3PO™ (75398) set is a must-have for fans and collectors, offering an impressive and detailed model of the iconic droid. Standing at 38.5cm tall, this build captures C-3PO’s distinctive golden exterior with a great level of detail, setting a new record for the number of gold pieces in a LEGO Star Wars set! The posture of C-3PO, a subtle yet crucial aspect of the character, is carefully crafted to reflect his humanoid yet unmistakably droid-like stature. The set also includes a stand with an information plaque, space for the included C-3PO minifigure, and a special 25th-anniversary brick, making it a fun centrepiece for any Star Wars collection. Designed to pair perfectly with the 2024 R2-D2 set, we love that you can even reconfigure C-3PO's arm to recreate his iconic gesture of patting R2-D2 on the head. Here at Investabrick, we think that this a great set, which captures C-3PO so well, the only niggle we have with regards to the build is his eyes which many think are too big and just not quite right, we are sure someone will come up with a clever parts usage to improve this!

Comparable Set Analysis

The LEGO Star Wars Miscellaneous sub-theme is one of the smaller ones but performs pretty much in line with the overall LEGO Star Wars theme with average annualised growth of 14%.

We have looked at the two larger retired sets, which have both performed solidly since retiring in the last few years. LEGO Darth Vader’s Castle (75251) retired in 2021 with an RRP of $130 and has seen 40% growth since (annualised growth of 13%) and LEGO Tantative IV (75244) which retired in 2020 with a $200 RRP and has seen nearly 50% growth to its current value (11% annualised growth).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
75244 Tantive IV 31/12/2020 $200 $290 45% 10%
75251 Darth Vader's Castle 01/10/2021 $130 $189 45% 13%

Conclusion

This is a great looking LEGO Star Wars model of the iconic C3PO character and is sure to be popular with Star Wars and LEGO fans alike. Whether it will be as popular with investors waits to be seen but there are seem clear positives and a few concerns at this early stage. We will definitely be buying one of these for our own collection to build, whether we see it as an investment later on will depend greatly on whether the strength of the LEGO Star Wars theme continues and how similar size models perform when they retire. We will be keeping a close eye on the likes of LEGO Star Wars Chewbacca (75371) and LEGO Star Wars Buildable R2-D2 (75379) perform when they retire.

For now, head to LEGO and snap up this iconic model of C3PO!
