Theme Analysis
As regular readers will know, we are big fans of the Icons theme, and the Vehicle sub-theme seems to be no different at first look. Slightly outperforming the overall themes annualised growth of 14% with an excellent performance of 17%.
We looked at some of the retired sets in the sub-theme, the pick is clearly the LEGO Icons Ferrari F40 (10248) which is now worth more than 3 times its RRP having retired just over 5 years ago giving annualised growth of 24%. A recently retired set that seems to be doing very well is the LEGO Icons James Bond Aston Martin DB5 (10262) which has grown over 25% in the 18 months since retiring.
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |

Comparable Set Analysis
Whilst we have looked at the theme and sub-theme, there are clearly some even better comparators, with Ghostbusters having its own theme with a couple of sets and a previous version of the ECTO-1 from Ideas in 2014. The LEGO Ideas Ecto-1 is now worth 162% more than its £44.99 RRP.
The pick of the Ghostbusters theme is LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) which has nearly doubled in value since retiring at the end of 2018.
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
21108 | Ghostbusters Ecto-1 | 31/12/2016 | $50 | $141 | 182% | 14% |
75827 | Firehouse Headquarters | 31/12/2018 | $350 | $785 | 124% | 15% |
75828 | Ecto-1 & 2 | 31/12/2017 | $60 | $131 | 118% | 12% |
