The Icons theme is a very solid one and one we often recommend sets from. Including the sets that were in the LEGO Creator Expert sub-theme across 38 retired sets there has been annualised average growth of 12%.
The Icons theme obviously covers a very broad range of sets, these include LEGO icons Big Ben (10253) which has increased in value from £180 RRP to just over £300 now (12% annualised growth) and LEGO icons Vestas wind Turbine (10268) which has increased by 31% since retiring at the end of 2020 (11% annualised growth).

10253 | Big Ben | 31/12/2018 | $250 | $392 | 57% | 8% |
10264 | Corner Garage | 31/12/2021 | $200 | $299 | 50% | 16% |

Comparable Set Analysis
In the fairground sub-theme there have been 4 retired sets and their average performance is broadly in line with that of the overall theme, providing annualised growth of 13% (albeit on a small sample size).
The 2 standout performers have been LEGO Icons Carousel (10257) which has more than doubled in value since retiring in 2019 (22% annualised growth) and LEGO Icons Ferris Wheel (10247) which has increased in value by 90% since the end of 2018 retirement (15% annualised growth).
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
10244 | Fairground Mixer | 31/12/2016 | $150 | $214 | 43% | 5% |
10247 | Ferris Wheel | 31/12/2018 | $200 | $335 | 68% | 9% |
10257 | Carousel | 31/12/2019 | $200 | $403 | 102% | 16% |
10261 | Roller Coaster | 31/12/2021 | $380 | $405 | 7% | 2% |
Conclusion
A great looking set, from a strong and popular theme, and with decent performance form the few retired sets within the sub theme too makes this a very serious consideration as an investment for us. The slight hesitancy is the considerable price tag, the lack of available discounts and the likelihood it still has at least another 18 months of shelf life.
For us this is a set we really like but for now it will go firmly onto our watch list with a view to looking to purchase if discounts arise in future closer to its likely retirement date.
