LEGO Minecraft has emerged as an absolute sensation among builders and gamers alike. Merging the beloved world of Minecraft with the versatility of LEGO, this combination has struck a chord with enthusiasts of all ages. The intricate LEGO sets bring the pixelated landscapes of Minecraft to life, allowing fans to construct their own brick-based adventures. Whether it's reimagining iconic scenes from the game or crafting custom creations, LEGO Minecraft sets have become the go-to destination for fans who seek a tangible connection to the virtual world they love. We take a look below at a set which is now hard to find: LEGO Minecraft Training Grounds.

Set Details

LEGO® Minecraft® The Training Grounds (21183) offers a sprawling, intricately designed playset that promises enduring enjoyment for both Minecraft enthusiasts and children aged 8 and above who relish creative construction and imaginative play. This hands-on Lego Minecraft set not only presents young builders with a gratifying project but also immerses them in an exciting gaming experience, producing an eye-catching model perfect for display. On the upper floor, there's a dojo, where Minecraft warriors live and hone their skills, while downstairs, a blacksmith's cave is equipped with an anvil, oven, and an armour stand, allowing kids to craft and repair their weaponry. Connecting these two levels is a cleverly operated trapdoor, activated by pushing a block beneath a tree, adding an element of surprise. This remarkable set even introduces thrilling battle action, courtesy of a marauding skeleton. And, when it's time for a change, the levels can be separated and rearranged to create an entirely new play scenario.

Theme Analysis

The Minecraft theme has returned annualised growth of 7% and contains some very successful sets over the years. We have looked at some of our favourites which include LEGO Minecraft The village (21128) which has more than doubled its £180 RRP since retiring at the end of 2017 (14% annualised return) and LEGO Minecraft the Mine (21118) which has increased in value by nearly 150% since retiring in 2015 (12% annualised growth).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
21118 The Mine 31/12/2015 $110 $331 201% 13%
21127 The Fortress 31/12/2017 $110 $256 133% 13%
21128 The Village 31/12/2017 $200 $578 189% 17%
21136 The Ocean Monument 31/12/2018 $120 $255 112% 14%

Comparable Set Analysis

The majority of the LEGO Minecraft sets are minifig-scale which this set is, we’ve taken a closer look at some of the other minifig-scale sets with a similar price point that have retired. The performance is a little mixed; LEGO Minecraft The Bedrock Adventures (21147) has grown by 40% since retiring at the end of 2019 (9% annualised growth) whereas LEGO Minecraft The Desert Oupost has only grown 17% since retiring in 2017 (annualised growth of 3%).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
21121 The Desert Outpost 31/12/2017 $60 $99 65% 8%
21122 The Nether Fortress 31/12/2017 $80 $138 72% 8%
21134 The Waterfall Base 31/12/2018 $70 $163 133% 16%
21147 The Bedrock Adventures 31/12/2019 $90 $140 56% 10%

Conclusion

The theme is solid enough and there are plenty of very good examples within the retired sets. In the comparable sets the picture is a little cloudier with some good sets and some that don’t perform as well and drag down the overall theme average.

This is a set we like and think will be a solid enough investment at the discounted price just below £50 with retirement just around the corner.
