Investment Potential
Only launched this year, LEGO Technic Bugatti Bolide in Agile Blue is a great looking set but may well be looking to have a short shelf life with a chance of retiring at the end of this year. LEGO 42162 comes with 905 pieces which makes a very decent 5p per brick.
The set is currently available at LEGO.com for its £44.99 RRP.

Theme Analysis
The LEGO Technic theme is a solid if unspectacular one, and one where set picking can be seen as crucial. Overall, the theme has annualised growth of 7% with the Licensed sub-theme at 8%.
We have looked at some of the LEGO Technic Licensed sets with similar price point. These include LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS (42063) which has more than doubled in value since retiring at the end of 2018 (18% annualised growth) and LEGO Technic Volvo EW160E (42053) which has also doubled in value in the 6 years since retiring (13% annualised growth).

Conclusion
This is a tricky one to assess. Normally we wouldn’t be looking to recommend this sort of set at RRP as the Technic cars in this price range tend to be regularly discounted before they retire from retail sale. In fact, we can see there is currently a decent discount on the original Bugatti Bolide (LEGO 42151). So do we assess this set as the same as the original or do we value it differently as to some extent it can be seen as a special edition compared to the original?
If we were buying to build we would definitely opt for the original model at £32.99 at Amazon but would be tempted to keep an eye on this Agile Blue version as it approached retirement from an investment perspective.
