71411 LEGO Mighty Bowser. This LEGO Mario arch enemy is a must build. When thinking of iconic video games, there is one which must stand out in the minds of the young and the young at heart. From its creation and release with Nintendo in 1985, the platform game Super Mario (also known as Super Mario Bros), with its lead character and hero Mario, has evolved to become a huge hit, with over 380 million Super Mario games selling worldwide.

For every ‘Goodie’ there must be a ‘Baddie’ and the platform game set in the Mushroom Kingdom, sees Mario and his brother Luigi overcome their enemies in different themed levels. Bowser, sometimes known as King Koopa or King Bowser, is Mario’s main foe. Since his debut in Super Mario Bros, the large fire breathing Koopa has constantly kidnapped Princess Peach as he tries to take over the Kingdom.
Set Details
One of the most recent LEGO® Super Mario sets is an incredible model of Bowser himself. Set 71411; The Mighty Bowser™, released in October 2022 contains 2807 pieces, some of which are brand new LEGO elements to recreate Bowers amazing spikes. The model is packed full of special features, including moveable jaw, arms and fingers, a button to control Bowser’s head and neck movements and of course a fireball launcher!
Aimed at older LEGO and Mario fans, this set is a technical build, with many challenging elements to keep builders on their toes whilst marvelling at the skills of the design team.
Not only a fun playable LEGO model, but this is also a great display piece. Standing Bowser on his brick-built twin towered battle platform with hidden POW Block and an Action Tag, the set measures 32 cm high, 41 cm wide and 28 cm deep. Is this set a good investment? As Mario would say, ‘Let's-a go’ and find out!

Investment Potential
Super Mario has clearly proven popular since making it’s LEGO debut in 2020 but we don’t have any clear evidence as yet how that will translate into future Investment potential.
If any set should do well though we think it will be this blockbuster model of Mario and Luigi’s arch enemy Bowser, the Ultimate Boss! There are currently some decent discounts available so worth snapping one up if you can.
This set is likely to be available at retail sale for another couple of years limiting any short-term price growth opportunities hence we would only look to buy now if doing so on one of the above (or similar) promotions.

Theme Analysis
Launched in 2020 there are already over 100 sets within the wider Super Mario theme, showing just how popular it is. A few of these sets have retired already and the majority of those that have are showing decent post retirement price growth.
The stand-out set is 77907 Toad’s Special Hideaway which has almost doubled in price despite retiring in March 2022. This is an exceptional set, however, as was only planned to be a promotional item at the San Diego Comic-Con however when this was cancelled due to Covid-19 it was sold as a Lego.com exclusive set, with the inherent scarcity of it driving this huge price growth.

Comparable Set Analysis
Because there are very few retired sets its hard for us to get a firm handle on direct comparators. The closest sets we can find are below:
The most encouraging information is that 71369 Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle has already appreciated 13 % since retiring last November but that’s not enough to underpin investing at RRP for us.
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
71369 | Bowser's Castle Boss Battle | 31/12/2021 | $100 | $140 | 40% | 13% |
71391 | Bowser's Airship | 31/12/2022 | $100 | $87 | -13% | -8% |
Conclusion
Not one to be rushing to buy at RRP as an investment but buy when discounts are available. The best option is currently at Zavvi for £174.99
For us, we think we would need to buy 2 sets if we want one as an investment as we would definitely want to build this Nintendo end-game beast!
