Theme Analysis

The LEGO Brickheadz theme and especially the Star Wars sub-theme have some exceptional post-retirement investment performances.

The pick of these is quite clearly BrickHeadz Star Wars Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite, which was an exclusive set at Comic-Con in New York in 2017. If you were lucky enough to have purchased one then for approx. £30 it is worth 15 times that amount at over £500 just over 5 years later!

We have however ignored that from our sub-theme analysis and just looked at the 13 other LEGO BrickHeadz Star War sets that have retired (almost all in 2018 and 2019). And still the performance is utterly phenomenal with annualised growth of 30% across the 13 sets and with 12 of the 13 sets

with an annualised growth greater than 10%.

Some of the best performing sets in the theme are below, the pick for us is BrickHeadz Star Wars Boba Fett (41629) which is worth 5 times more than its £10 RRP less than 4 years after retiring, annualised growth of 47%!

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
41609 Chewbacca 30/11/2018 $10 $64 540% 37%
41620 Stormtrooper 31/12/2018 $10 $56 460% 35%
41628 Princess Leia Organa 31/12/2018 $10 $40 300% 27%
41629 Boba Fett 31/12/2018 $10 $80 700% 44%

Comparable Set Analysis

In the comparable sets we have just looked at those sets containing 2 BrickHeadz as per LEGO 75317 and again we can see encouraging performance with an average annualised growth of just over 20%. The pick of these sets is clearly BrickHeadz Star Wars Luke & Yoda which has more than trebled in value in 4 years at a rate of 36% a year!

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
41489 Rey & Kylo Ren 31/12/2017 $20 $41 105% 11%
41627 Luke Skywalker & Yoda 31/12/2018 $15 $76 407% 33%
75232 Kylo Ren & Sith Trooper 31/07/2020 $20 $46 130% 22%

Conclusion

A great looking set, expected to retire by the end of the year from a sub-theme with a phenomenal track record producing annualised growth returns of 30% over the last 5 years since the first sets retired. What’s not to love, snap some of these up before they’re gone!
