42154 LEGO 2022 Ford GT | This LEGO Technic Set is not an investment but builders should look out for any future discounts

42154 LEGO Ford GT. This LEGO Technic Set is not an investment but builders look out for any future discounts. If you’re looking for a car to get your motor running, then you can’t go wrong with the LEGO Ford GT. This first generation high-performance car was produced by Ford Motor Company from 2005 to 2006. It was designed to compete with exotic sports cars such as the Ferrari 360 Modena and Lamborghini Murcielago and was the spiritual successor to Ford's GT40 racers of the 1960s. The Ford GT is powered by a supercharged 5.4 litre V8 engine that produces 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. It has a top speed of 205 mph and was the first production Ford to break the 200 mph barrier. The Ford GT also features an aluminium frame, carbon fibre body panels, and a unique gull-wing door design. It is a testament to Ford's engineering prowess and has become a collector's item for many enthusiasts.

Investment Potential

Another stunning looking Technics licensed car that has just been launched by LEGO and is available for the RRP of £104.99 here

Technics cars are not really a go to for us for investing in and sadly we cant see any reason for this one to be any different, with a long lifespan at retail ahead and then limited growth potential once retired .

Launch RRP 120
5th Year Value $153
Theme Growth 6%
Sub Theme Growth 0%

Theme Analysis

There are only 4 sets currently within the sub-theme and all currently still available at retail sale so we have looked at some retired sets from the wider Technics theme. The overall theme is not usually at the top of the lists when looking for investments, and whilst there are some gems hidden within, sadly we don’t think this will be one of them.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
42009 Mobile Crane MK II 31/12/2015 $220 $411 87% 7%
42025 Cargo Plane 31/12/2015 $140 $281 101% 8%
42066 Air Race Jet 31/07/2018 $160 $192 20% 3%

Comparable Set Analysis

We have looked at some of the other LEGO cars and the performance is at best varied. There are some genuine stars from an investment perspective, such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS which has more than doubled in price in less than 4 years of retirement. For every gem though there have been several that have disappointed including some of the more recently retired sets.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
42039 24 Hours Race Car 31/12/2016 $130 $194 49% 5%
42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 31/12/2018 $300 $836 179% 20%
42110 Land Rover Defender 31/12/2022 $200 $221 10% 6%
42126 Ford F-150 Raptor 31/12/2022 $100 $141 41% 22%

Conclusion

If you think this is going to be another Porsche 911 GT3 RS post retirement then we would keep an eye on future discounts to look to pick one up well below RRP. Our only current recommendation would be to buy to build, and even then we would be waiting for the likely discounts that usually come on Technics cars.
