The LEGO® Group, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, has unveiled the latest addition to its Jurassic World LEGO lineup, the LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex set. This new LEGO set, inspired by the blockbuster Jurassic World franchise, is an impressive 3,145-piece model which offers a rewarding build for fans and collectors alike. Measuring over one meter (more than three feet) in length, it is the largest LEGO Jurassic World set ever released. This new release joins a collection of other LEGO Jurassic World sets, including LEGO Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage (75936), LEGO Jurassic Park: Visitor Center: T. rex & Raptor Attack (76961), and LEGO Jurassic World Brachiosaurus Discovery (76960). Although never on this scale, these sets have brought iconic dinosaurs and scenes from the franchise to life, celebrating the enduring popularity of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films. The LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex set will be available for LEGO Insiders from March 12 and general release on March 15, 2025

Set Details

The LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus Rex (76968) is a meticulously designed 1:12-scale replica of the iconic T. rex skeleton, bringing prehistoric power to LEGO form. This collectible model features movable joints, including a poseable skull, jaw, arms, and tail, allowing for dynamic and customizable displays. Fans of the 1993 classic will appreciate the inclusion of Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant minifigures, adding to the nostalgia. Mounted on a sturdy display stand, it comes with an informational plaque and hidden Easter eggs, such as an ‘amber’ piece, nodding to the Jurassic Park franchise, and also inside the T. rex’s spine, a tiny green frog sits at a driver’s seat, steering wheel in hand. This clever nod to the frog DNA used in Jurassic Park’s cloning process is a hidden detail that only builders will know is there, making the experience all the more special. Beyond its intricate design, the set boasts remarkable structural stability, ensuring that despite its detailed articulation, the model remains sturdy and display-ready. At Investabrick, we love this set from a build point of view, but how do we see it going as an investment piece, read on to find out.

Theme Analysis

Since the LEGO Jurassic World theme was launched 10 years ago there have been just over 100 sets released, the majority of which are now retired. The theme has been a solid one for LEGO investors returning 11% annualised growth and is definitely one we at Investabrick will look at for future LEGO investments.

The LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils sub theme was new last year and one we will look to analyse in more detail in the future.

We have looked at some of the better performing retired sets from the wider LEGO Jurassic World theme below including Indominus Rex Breakout (75919) which has more than trebled in value  since retiring in 2016 (16% annualised growth), Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate (75390) which has almost doubled in value since retiring in 2019 (13% annualised growth) and T Rex vs Dino-mech Battle (75938) which has grown 80% since retiring in 2020 (15% annualised growth).

Conclusion

In our opinion this is one of the most visually stunning LEGO models ever released and is going to be in high demand as soon as it goes on sale. The new Dinosaur Fossils collection within the Jurassic World theme is one we will definitely be keeping an eye on going forward and expect this to become a strong LEGO investment theme but for now this LEGO T-Rex set is crying out to be built and displayed.
