Historically, LEGO Speed Champions has been hugely popular at Investabrick, both as a LEGO theme for building but also more importantly as a strong LEGO investment theme.
To date there has been over 70 sets of which more than 60 are now retired and those retired sets have seen an average annualised growth of 22% and we have looked at some of them in the table below.
LEGO McLaren P1 (75909) retired in 2016 with a £13 RRP and is now valued at more than 5 times that at £71 (23% annualised growth), LEGO Porsche 919 Hybrid (75887) is worth £50, nearly 4 times its £13 RRP (25% annualised growth), LEGO Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa (75886) has seen more than 150% increase in value to £33 (20% annualised growth) and LEGO Nissan GT-R NISMO (76986) has more than doubled in value to £43 since retiring in 2021 (33% annualised growth).
Going forward, our views of the LEGO Speed Champions theme are slightly tempered and whilst we are still positive we expect future to returns to be slightly lower than historically, in the main due to an increase in supply of the sets, especially at a discounted price (most current sets are available at a 20% discount on and that should be the maximum price you are looking to pay for future sets as a LEGO investment!).
