This theme appeals not only to experienced LEGO enthusiasts but also to those with a passion for vehicles, machinery, and STEM-related projects. Over the years, the Technic LEGO lineup has evolved significantly, incorporating new features such as pneumatics, electric motors, and even app-controlled functions. One of the key aspects that have contributed to the success of Technic is its ability to replicate real-world machinery with remarkable accuracy. Theme Analysis
LEGO Technic now has over 500 sets in the nearly 50 years it has been a staple of the LEGO range, more than 400 of which are now retired, and this seems certain to continue with this release of another handful of great LEGO Technic models. Across such a large sample, the LEGO Technic retired sets have delivered average annualised growth of 6%, making it a solid if unspectacular LEGO investment theme, that said at Investabrick, we perceive it as a set pickers theme where there are still some very solid LEGO investments within.
We have looked at some of the retired LEGO Technic sets below including LEGO Porsche 911 GT3 RS which has seen its value nearly treble since retiring in 2018 (18% annualised growth), LEGO CLAAS XERION 5000 TRAC VC which has more than doubled in value since retiring in 2017 (11% annualised growth) and LEGO Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245 which has nearly doubled in value (9% annualised growth).
Conclusion
As we have mentioned, here at Investabrick we see the LEGO Technic theme as a “set pickers” theme from an investment perspective and are looking at these news sets through that lens. Initial thoughts are that the two Formula 1 cars could prove to be strong LEGO investments in the future, we will give a more informed view when we see how the sets perform once they have been launched but both will definitely be going on LEGO investment watchlist for now.
The one formula 1 fan on the staff however is sure to be buying these on pre-order to be one of the first to receive them when released in March and if you want to join them, click below to pre-order from LEGO now
