Theme Analysis
It’s 10 years now since the LEGO BrickHeadz theme was launched and there has been more than 150 sets and what an amazing LEGO investment they make. On average the retired sets within LEGO BrickHeadz have seen average annualized growth of 23% across this decent sample size and there are many examples of sets delivering even higher returns.
The LEGO BrickHeadz are LEGO exclusive sets and come with an attractively low price point and they often see a large increase in price soon after retiring, making them great for a short term investment. The biggest battle is being able to source enough of them with LEGO.com limiting them to 5 per person usually.
We have taken a better look at a few of the BrickHeadz sets that we were bullish on last year that have retired in November/December and you can already see short term pop that comes upon retirement.
Some examples of the amazing performance that is possible from LEGO BrickHeadz include LEGO 40631 had an RRP of $20 and has already sold just above $50 (>150% increase), LEGO 40627 had an RRP of $10 and has already sold as high as $18 (80% increase), LEGO 40628 had an RRP of $10 and has sold for just over $20 (>100% increase) and LEGO 40651 had an RRP of $15 and has sold as high as $25 already (67%).
One other thing to bear in mind is the likely short shelf life of the LEGO BrickHeadz sets, it is expected that the sets being launched early this year will be retired by the end of the year which in combination with them being LEGO exclusive sets leads to limited supply levels and higher prices in the longer term.
Summary
At Investabrick we have always been huge fans of the LEGO BrickHeadz theme, both as LEGO investors but also as LEGO fans, they can be spotted on most of the desks within the team! Our bullish investment perspective is based on the average annualized growth of 23% over a sample size of 150+ sets and nearly 10 years. And that performance seems as strong as ever with the recent sale prices of the sets that retired at the end of 2024.
Head to LEGO and look to add some of the new 5 sets to your collection (LEGO Tom & Jerry is my favourite, showing my age!), or some of the other sets currently for sale (there are nearly 20 sets to choose from!) but don’t wait around, they will soon be retired and increasing in price!
