Rumoured LEGO Icons 10360 | A Blast from the Past with a Modern Twist Image
A new rumour swirling in the LEGO community suggests that LEGO Icons is planning to launch the 10360 Space Shuttle Discovery & 747 Plane set a nod to history that isn't entirely uncharted territory for the LEGO Group.

According to whispers from an anonymous source, frequently referenced by the trusted Clay_Bricks, this colossal 2,417-piece set is expected to drop on May 15, priced at $229.99. The set is said to recreate the iconic modified 747 plane, the very model that ferried space shuttles from landing sites back to the Kennedy Space Center between 1974 and 2011.

The engineering behind these modified aircraft is no small feat. After a steady stream of recent NASA-themed models, introducing a detailed, large-scale 747 that once played a crucial role in space exploration would be a refreshing change. Its potential pairing with the equally impressive 10318 Concorde only adds to the anticipation.

This isn’t LEGO’s first rodeo with shuttle planes. Back in 1995, the LEGO Town series debuted the 6544 Shuttle Transcon 2 a modest 342-piece set that offered a simplified take on the shuttle plane concept. Fast forward 30 years, and it appears the LEGO Group might be poised to give these historic planes the upgrade they deserve, with a significantly larger piece count and a design that likely sacrifices minifigure compatibility to maintain scale accuracy.

The timing is intriguing—releasing this set three decades after the original is more than a coincidence, and it hints at a deliberate homage to LEGO’s past. Beyond the official buzz, the vibrant online LEGO community has already embraced the modified aircraft concept. Fans have shared several custom builds, with models by creators like DamoB (who opts for around 1,000 fewer pieces than the rumored official set) and sabi_wabi (whose take is roughly one-tenth the size), showcasing the enduring appeal of these designs.

With rumors of an ongoing partnership between the LEGO Group and NASA, enthusiasts are keen to see how the official version will stack up against these inventive fan creations. As always, take these unconfirmed reports with a pinch of salt. But if the rumour holds true, LEGO Icons might just be preparing to launch one of its most ambitious historical sets yet.

Stay tuned for more updates on LEGO Icons as we track other rumored and confirmed releases coming later this year.
