LEGO Speed Champions has long been a favourite theme for us here at Investabrick and just based on historic numbers it is clear to see why. There have been nearly 100 sets released over the last 10 years and the retired sets have seen average annualised growth of 19% across that time, an exceptional return.
That said our enthusiasm is a little tempered of late, with an increase in the number of sets released, an increase in the RRPs and higher levels of discounting (often quite soon after launch) especially at Amazon. Whilst we would still consider these sets for LEGO investments we would be adjusting our strategy slightly to look for lower purchase and then resale prices than we would have historically.
