Investment Potential

An amazing looking LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes set with over 4,000 pieces and 4 minifigures, LEGO 76271 is due to launch at the start of April 2024 and is sure to appeal to DC Comics Super Heroes fans and especially Batman fans within the LEGO family and looks like it will be an enthralling build. But will it make for a good investment?

Theme Analysis

The LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes theme is a bit of a mixed one, containing over 150 sets and delivering average annualised growth of 7% but there is quite a large variety of performance within that making this very much a set pickers theme for us here at Investabrick.

Some previously retired sets within the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes theme include LEGO 76075 Wonder Woman Warrior Battle which has all but doubled in value from its $30 RRP since retiring in 2017 (11% annualised growth) and LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Darkseid Invasion which has seen 83% growth since retiring in 2015 (8% annualised growth).

Comparable Set Analysis

We have taken a look at some of the larger Batman themed sets with LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes theme that have previously retired and we see a similar picture to the overall theme with average performance broadly in line with the 7% but there are some sets that outperform this average.

LEGO 10937 Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout is a good example of the average theme, having grown nearly 70% in nearly 10 years (6% annualised growth) whereas LEGO 76139 1989 Batmobile is massively outperforming the average having seen 77% growth in just over 2 years of retirement (29% annualised growth).%

Conclusion

For now, this is a pre-launch set with a high price tag and a likely 2 year+ shelf life ahead of it, so for us it is not an investment to consider for now. That said, it is one to go on our watchlist to monitor as it approaches its retirement and it definitely looks like a great set to build, especially for DC Comics Super Heroes fans.
