LEGO Marvel sets are out of this world, and now you can construct an epic spacecraft and defend the galaxy! Picture this: a spaceship that’s not too big, not too small – it’s just right. Marvel LEGO The Guardians ship is just that. Sporting a cool orange paint job and a sleek design, this spaceship is as much a character as any of the Guardians themselves. It’s got everything you could want in a vessel for interstellar travel: living quarters, weapons, a cockpit for the pilot, and even a spot for Groot to grow in peace. And let’s not forget how it saved the day in the epic battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Without the Benatar, things could have gone a lot differently. So next time you’re dreaming of a far-off adventure through the cosmos, just remember that the Benatar is out there, waiting to take you on a ride.

Theme Analysis

Across the board the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes theme returns annualised growth of 10% historically. We looked at some of the more successful sets including LEGO Marvel Superheroes The SHIELD Helicarrier (76042) which has grown 70% from its RRP of £279.99 to its current value of £479 (annualised growth of 10%) and LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider Man: Web Warriors Ultimate (76057) which has more than doubled from its £99.99 RRP since retiring at the end of 2017 delivering annualised returns of 15%.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier December 2017 £280 £479 71% 10%
76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle December 2017 £100 £221 121% 15%

Comparable Set Analysis

The investment argument becomes far weaker when we look at the specific LEGO Avengers Endgame sub-theme which has only delivered annualised growth of 1% historically. This performance is made up of some sets which have shown small gains in value since retiring and more worryingly some sets which are currently valued at less than their retirement RRP.

The two sets which have made small gains are LEGO Marvel Superheroes Avengers Hulk Helicopter Rescue (76144) and Marvel Super Heroes Avengers Ultimate Quinjet (76126).

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
76131 Avengers Compound Battle December 2020 £90 £88 -2% -1%
76144 Avengers Hulk Helicopter Rescue December 2020 £55 £61 11% 4%
76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor December 2021 £55 £43 -22% -15%
76126 Avengers Ultimate Quinjet December 2020 £75 £84 12% 5%

Conclusion

The very weak performance of previously retired sets within the sub-theme is the overriding factor in our opinion that this set is best avoided as an investment. Whilst there are some encouraging performance signs in the wider LEGO Marvel Super Heroes theme it is not strong enough to override the sub-themes poor performance.
