Not a set that would usually scream investment to us but we’ve had a look in detail at this LEGO Technic truck, the LEGO technic theme in general and also some older retired LEGO technic trucks.

Launched in 2021 and expected to be retiring in the next 12 months it is currently available at LEGO.com for the £159.99 RRP or at a 20 discount at Smyths for 139.99.

Theme Analysis

The general LEGO Technic theme performs at a respectable 10% annualised growth over a very big sample size. We took a look at some of the non-car LEGO Technic sets and the majority demonstrated performance in and around the 10% a year growth. The best LEGO Technic set we looked at was LEGO Technic Crawler Crane (42042) which has more than doubled in value since retiring in 2016 and delivered annualised growth of 13%.

Comparable Set Analysis

We reduced our sample size to look at the 30 most closely related LEGO Technic truck sets and found a very similar story with average annualised growth across this group of 10%. The highest total growth came from LEGO Technic Tow Truck (8285) which is worth more than 5x its price when retiring in 2008. Conclusion

Steady if unspectacular performance from the theme and the smaller comparable sets group, both delivering annualised growth of 10% over decent sample sizes. It’s a set we would look to invest in if there were decent discounts available, if not then it looks a cracking set to build and potentially display.
