Investment Potential

NINJAGO sets tend to have one of the shorter shelf lives at retail sale of all LEGO themes, with most sets being on sale for between a year and eighteen months. Based on this we would expect this set may well be retired early in 2023. Its currently in stock and available at the LEGO store for £99.99.

There seems to be little stock of it anywhere else so don’t hesitate in purchasing if interested as it may be soon retired and out of stock everywhere.

Comparable Set Analysis

The seabound sub theme consists of just 5 sets, all launched in 2021 and all still currently available at retail sale. This set is currently the third highest owned of the 5, with the highest owned being 71754 Water Dragon. This makes looking at comparable sets harder, so we have looked at the most comparable sets within the NINJAGO theme:

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
2505 Garmadon’s Dark fortress November 2011 £50 £265 430% 16%
70728 Battle for Ninjago City August 2015 £90 £186 107% 10%
70751 Temple of Airjitzu March 2017 £170 £338 99% 13%
70670 Monastery of Spinjitsu November 2020 £80 £104 30% 14%

Conclusion

With no retired sets in the sub-theme we have been quite conservative in our projections for this set post-retirement having used some sets within the general NINJAGO theme. Having looked at the higher priced Temple like sets we do get some higher returns on retired sets and this does lead us towards recommending this set for investment purposes. Now would be a great time to purchase within stock in very short supply and retirement imminent.
