The much-anticipated movie Eternals was released in 2021, introducing a fascinating cast of characters from Marvel comics. Creator Jack Kirby brought The Eternals to life during his return to Marvel in the ’70s, drawing some inspiration from his work on DC’s New Gods. The Eternals, a group of engineered, near-perfect extra-terrestrials from planet Olympia, were created by powerful beings known as Celestials. In this story, they were sent to Earth to combat a group of villainous Deviants, defending humanity and keeping a watchful eye for 7,000 years.

The Domo (named after a character from the original Eternals comics), the spaceship of the Eternals that travelled to Earth, is a huge triangular craft. It stands out in the MCU for its unique design inspired by sacred geometry. Triangles and circles frequently appear in religious iconography and, therefore, these shapes were integrated into the Domo’s design. The Domo features three large circular rooms and is dominated by golden rings in its interior. Just perfect to be brought to life in LEGO® form!

Set Details

If you are looking for a LEGO® set which recreates an iconic Marvel spacecraft in great detail, then this one ticks all of the boxes. LEGO® Marvel Rise of the Domo (76156) allows fans to explore the elaborate interior of the Eternals’ spaceship. The set features six Eternals minifigures – Makkari, Ikaris, Thena, Sersi, Druig, and Phastos – each with unique characteristics that add to the fun. With the ability to lift open on all three sides, this playset offers access to the cockpit, weapons room, laboratory, and more there is definitely a lot more to this set than what you would think from the outside. This is the only LEGO set to include the Druig and Phastos minifigures, so if you are a Minifigure fan, it is a great set to add to your collection.

Investment Potential

In truth the Marvel universe divides our office firmly down the middle on whether they get excited about the next Blockbuster film to be released. Much of the negativity around the films is about how they tend to rinse and repeat the same script for pretty much every film and rely massively on SFX that seem to create a feel closer to a computer game then the classic superhero films that we grew up with. On the other hand, the incredible action scenes and rollercoaster narrative seem to propel many of my colleagues into a cinema whenever the Marvel universe is attached to any film. I think both opinions are valid and Marvel films are great to sink some popcorn and switch off on a Friday night if that’s what you want to do. This inevitably has led to less popularity for the theme in the office, so it was certainly a more interesting theme to get out teeth stuck into. Will LEGO Marvel Rise of the Domo save the day for the Marvel Super Heroes theme?

We have taken a look at the wider LEGO Marvel Superheroes theme as there are currently no retired sets within the Eternals sub themes. Historically, the theme has delivered 9% annualised growth (excluding some very successful Comic-Con promotional items). We have taken a look at some of the retired sets, with the pick being LEGO Marvel Spider-man Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle (76057) which has nearly doubled in price in the 6 years it has been retired.

Comparable Set Analysis

We have taken a closer look at some of the sets at a more comparable price point and here we can see these sets are performing a little better than the theme average with annual growth of 15% as an average of these sets. LEGO Marvel Hulk vs Red Hulk (76078) has delivered growth of nearly 150% at an annual rate of just over 20%.

Conclusion

An interesting set for a solid sub theme, albeit it would be a marginal investment for us at RRP, however with current discounts at Amazon of 49% off available just before retirement then at that price we would definitely add it to our collection! Snap one up while you can!
